The air is slightly fresher in here and it becomes clearer as she comes further inside.
Some time later the walls of the tunnel are at times hollowed out in strange shapes.
The sounds from behind definitely closer now.

Ayadinlani sighs under the weight of the limp body and pokes it in the side while she drags it on and on. She keeps her eyes open for an exit, ay sort of exit. Perhaps she should be dropping this weight, perhaps she should just fly off and be gone. She drags the man on. He is still alive... Still alive. Someone real.

There doesn't appear to be any form of exit. By the sounds behind her they are clearly moving at a higher pace than she.

Ayadinlani keeps dragging, quickening her pace as much as she can, dragging the limp body along desperately and rather roughly.

There is no light emerging behind her but she suddenly hears the harsh voices being raised as if upset by something. After some commotion it settles down a little.

Ayadinlani grins to herself. That'll teach them. She drags on as fast as she can.

It remains quiet as she continues on. After about another hour she can feel the tunnel beginning to slope upward at a slight gradient. Gragually as she continues on the air starts to get less thick and smelly. She is probably starting to feel a bit hungry and tired.

You're hungry.
I don't care.
I can get you food.
Go away.
You'll starve and die.
Go away. Go away. Go away. Go away. Go away.
"Go away."
Ayadinlani keeps on dragging. She seems to be going up. Maybe that is good. Maybe not. It is up. It smells better. Maybe. Better than what?
Aren't you tired? Sleep. Lie down. Sleeeeeep.
"Crid ib ymnayto."

After about another hour she reaches a little area that seems roughly round in shape as she feels it out. There are what appears to be two further tunnels carrying on and a couple of little carved out hollows in the walls as if something had nested there thogh there seems to be no trace of any nests anymore.

Ayadinlani smiles to herself.
"Why look at that. Natural bedchamber. You don't mind sleeping with a woman, do you."
She carefully lays the man in one of the hollows, if it is big enough for him, or else on the ground. She props her jacket under his head by ways of a pillow. She sits next to him and strokes his face.
[Celestial] "Wake up, dearest. Wake up. You are safe now. You are safe. Wake up, my sweet."
She takes her water flask from her bag and drinks a little before she uses some of the water to wash his face quite gently. With soft, kind hands she searches the man's body for injuries.
[Celestial] "I am here and everything will be alright. Wake up, my dearest. Come home with me."
She nurses him as best as she can, strokes his cheeks, lovingly kisses his forehead a few times. She runs her hand through his hair and holds his hand, sitting worriedly and a little tiredly beside him.

The man doesn't make a sound and lies in the position she places him in, still limp and colder than before.
As she tends to him and has a proper look she finds no lack of injuries to his body. Some new and some seem a bit older and some almost completely healed, mingled with scars. There is a particularily nasty wound to his side that was quite hidden under his clothes. It is bleeding but not gushing. His back is riddled with criss-crossed linear wounds old and new and the fingers on his left hand seem all broken and misaligned. Though his face is free of wounds she can feel scartissue and blood trickling down from his left temple. Ayadinlani manages to stop all bleeding and though he is still unconscious she can tell he is not as bad as he was when she is done.

[Celestial] "You are a lucky man that I am here."
Ayadinlani nods solemnly.
[Celestial] "Isn't he, Cufi? Oh yes. Wake up, dearest. You have to wake up. We will get your hand taken care of, I promise. I don't know how to, but I'll find someone. Really I will."
She sobs.
[Celestial] "Wake up! You're real. You have to stay real."
She sits vigil over him and strokes his face while staring into the darkness.

The man doesn't react.
The place falls very very quiet as she stops talking and remains just as black.

Silence. Ayadinlani sits quietly for a while.
"I have been here forever."
She frowns to herself.
Forever.
She pulls her legs to her body. She has been here forever. She is part of the walls and the ground. Go back to the light. Light? There is no light. There never has been light. There never has been sound. She opens her mouth but has forgotten how to speak. The silence is everything. The dark is everything. The man under her hand is part of her, but the load on her back feels alien.
Stand up. She stands carefully, swaying on her legs like a toddler. Are you tired? A little. Not too tired. Not yet. Pick him up. Why? I don't know. She picks the man up, very carefully, hoists the pack over her shoulder, holds the jacket in her free hand, then slings it over his shoulders. He must be cold. Yes. Are you? What? Cold. What is that? Nevermind.
Ayadinlani sets one foot before the other. Good. Keep walking. Keep walking. Who is this man? What man? Where did he came from? He is real. He does not come. He is here, there is no from. She has been carrying him forever. Forever, forever. Aren't you hungry? A little.
Where am I going? The tunnel, the tunnel, always the tunnels, more tunnels and more and darkness. Which tunnel? That one. The one that smells like outside. There is an outside? Yes, yes. No. What is outside? Take that tunnel. Ayadinlani keeps walking, half carrying the man. She is tired and hungry, but she does not wish to stay here. She takes the tunnel most likely to lead outside, if there is such a thing.
No such thing. Silence.

The air does gradually get fresher as the path continues to slowly ascend.
About an hour later the floor is leveling out and suddenly there is a gap in the floor. She loses her footing and falls straight down. She quickly reaches out and manages to grab hold of the edge to catch herself and even though he is very heavy she just manages to hold the man from falling.
Although several loose rocks fall she can't hear them landing.
